Argumentative Presentation: Genetic Food (GM): Advantages to our world! 1.- Introduction======
  • Currently, the use of genetically modified food is a subject of enormous global controversy.
  • There are a lot of arguments againt Genetic Food.
  • In my research it was more common found "cons" about GM than "pros".
  • But today I would like to support the idea of Genetic Food, becasue it is I believe that GM is a good source to the world agriculture.

http://www.monsanto.com/biotech-gmo/asp/globalOutlook.asp

2.- What is my claiming?....Genetic Food is a good solution to improve agriculture in our world.

I support and defend this kind of food!
  • GM It is not a new concept, it is a old concep that has been showed good results in numerous countries

  • It is useful to economy, farmer, environment, agricultural productivity.

    • Past decade: Over the past decade, they’ve increased area planted in genetically modified (GM) crops by more than 10 percent each year, increased their farm income by more than US$44 billion (1996-2007), and achieved economic, environmental and social benefits in crops such as soybeans, canola, corn and cotton.

    • Today: Farmers in 25 countries on six continents are using plant biotechnology to solve difficult crop production challenges and conserve the environment.

3.- Evidence to support my claim

  • GM crops benefit the environment and conserve natural habitat for wildlife.
  • Twenty-five Nobel Prize winners and 3,400 prominent scientists have expressed their support for the advantages and safety of genetically modified foods and crops as a “powerful and safe” way to improve agriculture and the environment.
  • Numerous international organizations also have endorsed the health and environmental safety of biotech crops
    • the Royal Society (UK),
    • National Academy of Sciences (USA),
    • the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, etc.

4.- Reflextion and Conclusion

  • No doubt that GM is a controversial subject
  • But, there aren't enough scientific evidence that GM is harmful to the environment or for health of people.
  • Do you have any questions or comments?
  • Thanks for your attention.
